Contemplative Conversation: #foodforyoursoul #spirituality#contemplative#knoxville

Updated: Sep 7, 2019

When was the last time you experienced a slow, mindful conversation where you discovered a deeper connection with your soul as well as a sense of divine transcendence? So much of our time and energy are spent rushing around on the surface of life, exhausting ourselves with mind clutter.

What a gift it has been for me in my life to both receive and offer spiritual direction. How patient and caring my director has been as I have struggled with deep questions on my journey of faith, traveling in and out of consolation and desolation. I consider spiritual direction to be a contemplative, divine conversation where we allow space for the spirit to unfold and reveal deeper insight on our journey. Quite often we discover a truth that resonates with who we are and who we were created to be.

Here is an excerpt from one of my favorite poets and philosophers: John O' Donohue from an interview with Krista Tippett, http://www.onbeing.org/program/john-o-donohue-the-inner-landscape-beauty/203/history

"When is the last time that you had a great conversation, a conversation that wasn't just two intersecting monologues, which is what passes for conversation a lot in this culture. But when had you last a great conversation, in which you overheard yourself saying things that you never knew you knew? That you heard yourself receiving from somebody words that absolutely found places within you that you thought you had lost and a sense of an event of a conversation that brought the two of you onto a different plane. And then fourthly, a conversation that continued to sing in your mind for weeks afterwards....it's just absolutely amazing, as we would say at home, they are food and drink for the soul."
